Quality Cattle Drive Strong Beaudesert Market
Buyers compete fiercely as top-quality weaners and breeding stock attract premium prices
Premium breeding stock and quality weaners continue to attract fierce buyer competition.
The Beaudesert Store Sale delivered another outstanding result on Saturday, with strong competition across the yards pushing prices higher for most descriptions and quality breeding stock leading the market. Agents Bartholomew & Co reported widespread buyer confidence, particularly for well-bred weaner cattle and proven breeding females, with many prospective purchasers leaving the sale empty-handed after missing out on the best lines.
The strongest demand centred on a large offering of quality one-brand Droughtmaster and Charolais-cross weaner steers, which set the benchmark for the day’s trading. Buyers actively competed for cattle with weight, breeding and future performance, resulting in solid prices throughout the sale. Heifers also sold exceptionally well, while breeding cows and calves attracted sustained interest from producers looking to rebuild or expand their herds.
Among the standout sales, Warrick and Johanne Stewart, of Cedar Creek, received $2,270 for two-year-old Droughtmaster steers. Droughtmaster steers, 18 months, from Carinya Queensland, Rathdowney, sold for $1,980, while Paul Finch, Canungra, achieved $1,810 for his 18-month-old Droughtmaster steers. Simon and Robyn Corcoran, Canungra, sold 20-month-old Charolais-cross steers for $1,800, highlighting the strong demand for quality heavier feeder cattle.
Weaner steers continued to attract spirited bidding throughout the sale. Allan and Sandy King, Mt Gipps, sold Charolais-cross weaner steers for $1,650, while Paradise Creek Pastoral Co, Glamorgan Vale, and Keira Farm, Mutdapilly, both reached $1,480 for Charolais-cross weaner steers. Paul Hawkins, Roadvale, sold Charbray weaner steers for $1,380, while Wattle Tree Stud, Rosewood, received $1,150 for Santa-cross weaner steers.
Competition remained equally strong for young breeding females. Rob Hayes and Kathy Hopkins, Woodhill, achieved $1,470 for 15-month-old Charolais-cross heifers. Paradise Creek Pastoral Co sold Charolais-cross weaner heifers for $1,050, while Allan and Sandy King received $980. Charbray weaner heifers from Paul Hawkins sold for $910, Droughtmaster weaner heifers from Warrick and Johanne Stewart made $930, and Charolais weaner heifers from Spring Creek Land Corporation, Cryna, reached $850.
Breeding stock proved to be among the highlights of the sale. Peter and Nicole Blyton, Beaudesert, topped the market when their Limousin cows and calves sold for $2,650, the highest price recorded on the day. Frank and Sue Coghlan, Palen Creek, sold Charbray cows and calves for $2,160, while Ray and Diane Bruxner, Laravale, received $2,090 for Droughtmaster cows and calves. Speckle Park cows and calves from New Water Feedlot sold for $1,775.
In the breeding cow section, Warrick and Johanne Stewart sold Droughtmaster cows for $2,150, while New Water Feedlot received $2,000 for Charolais-cross cows, reflecting ongoing confidence in quality breeding females as producers position themselves for future seasonal improvement.
With strong buyer competition across all categories and premium prices achieved for quality cattle, the Beaudesert Store Sale once again demonstrated the resilience of the south-east Queensland store market. The next Beaudesert Store Sale is scheduled for Saturday, 22 August, commencing at 9.30am.
