“30+ years doing what we love – Breeding Quality Angus Cattle”

Lyle Angus Cattle is a family owned operation located in the tough forest country South East of Casino, NSW. After years of the family being totally committed to Hereford & cross bred cattle, Bruce set out in 1982 to develop and establish the Angus herd at “Jambrita” Alphadale until relocating to “Paisley Park” Casino in 1988, where we still call home today. The Lyle family has been breeding registered Angus cattle for over 30 years.

The country we raise our cattle in is a tough short season environment and our cows are truly hard workers, being asked to rear calves in low fertility forest country is a big ask and we are constantly amazed by the Angus hardiness to breed and produce under these conditions, traditionally reserved for Brahman cross breeder herds. We have been asked many times why we run our cattle on such tough country and the answer is simple, we love living and raising our family here ! The added bonus is our cattle leave here and can go anywhere and perform superbly, being bred and raised in the tough adds remarkable doing ability that our customers recognise, with many repeat customers placing our bulls out with British, Euro, Brahman & F1 cows in the toughest of situations successfully year after year. Born and pasture raised on our farm, Ryegrass, Oats and Vetch prepared for sale.

Our goals are very simple, focus on the cow. You can have all the numbers in the world, but if you don’t have a cow, that will go in calf, calve unassisted, thrive on grass, wean a calf ½ her body weight, you don’t have much to work with. We aim to breed strong, heavily muscled, easy fleshing bulls, that sire calves that will breed our customers steer calves with extra Kilo’s and valuable replacement females, year after year.

Selected use of high accuracy proven A.I. sires has been implemented to complement our cow families, along with purchasing sires from time to time that meet our high expectations. We also use select sires that are home bred, we find this the ultimate test in sampling the product we sell and are extremely pleased with how our cattle stack up.

We have 20 herd improving Angus bulls on offer at the Casino All Breeds Bull Sale. Held on Saturday 30th of July and having withstood the test of time, this event has imbedded itself as the region’s major bull sale and is well recognised by all large and smaller scale graziers as a must attend event for quality. To Support our Southern clients, we are offering 8 bulls at the Grafton Angus Sale on the 6th August 2022. We are resisting selling bulls at bull sales outside our area, choosing to provide local cattle for our local producers.. Additionally, outside buyers who source our bulls year after year from this sale are very happy with the performance of our Bulls, year in and year out !

Heidi and I are very  proud of this years bulls on offer, they have done very well in a very difficult wet season. Further pics and Info from our website www.lylefamily angus.com.au

If you would like to visit and see the bulls in the paddock, no problem, just give us a call !

Alinta Brahman Bulls

Bull selection is the foundation of a profitable beef herd and is the major tool to change the genetic potential and productivity of the beef enterprise .

Before selecting a bull is important to determine which type of bull  will have the most influence on the herd . The selection should then consider the structural correctness and temperament of the bull and those performance traits most related to the herds breeding goals .

The selection of high quality red Brahman bulls is important in improving productive traits that improve the profitability of the beef enterprise . The selection involves  the assessment of the correctness of legs and feet , natural muscling, tidy sheath underline and the overall balance and volume of the bull.

Alinta Red Brahman Stud managed by Alex , Patricia and Cameron Ashwood have nominated a three  quality bulls for the Casino All Breeds Sale in July 2022 . Verification of the high standard of Alinta bulls was clearly demonstrated at Rockhampton Brahman Week 2021 Sale when they sold for above the average price of $15,000. Alinta Stud was the only red Brahman Stud in the Northern Rivers of NSW to achieve higher than the average price for red Brahmans .

Alinta Red Brahman Stud places  a major emphasis on practical, functional  and economic traits that are the main drivers of the profitability and productivity of the beef enterprise.

Importantly, the benefits of selecting high quality bulls are cumulative because they produce superior progeny .

The calves of superior bulls have higher growth and weaning rates and better structure, type and carcass traits resulting in improved replacement and future breeders and most importantly stock that meet market specifications and the herd breeding goals .

High quality bulls selected for herd complementary , temperament and structural correctness reduce wasteful culling and the negative impact of low quality bulls . The ongoing selection of quality bulls improves the uniformity of the herd from generation to generation and reduces the incidence of low performance and and detrimental inherited traits.

Alinta’s key breeding goals include the selection of calm stock that are structurally sound and have good commercial attributes. Since production, function and growth are genetically related the emphasis on sire selection is of even further importance .

The use of superior sires in well managed  breeding programs include increased weight gains, improved fertility and milk production to increase beef performance and profits .

As a result of the focus placed on functional and commercial traits Alinta Red Brahman Stud has resulted in the breeding of profitable bulls that can meet the challenges and opportunities of commercial and Stud breeders

The selection of high quality bulls and female replacements that have a good temperament improves herd and reproductive performance through higher feed intakes and weight gains .

Casino VRA Open Day

The VRA are an integral part of the safety and security when it comes to rescue on our roads, at places of work and in our homes. They have had a solid presence in Casino since September 1980 which has been largely supported by local donations and people. Their professional approach and the tasks they accomplish for the community is a testimony to the Integrity and dedication of its members. Casino VRA are opening its doors this month, so you can get a glimpse inside the organisation.

The VRA are involved in various roles in the community. In rescue operations they attend road crashes, animal rescues, industrial and domestic entrapments – whether it’s a ring stuck on a finger or machinery, swift water rescue and USAR or Urban Search and Rescue. But they also attend community events in supportive roles.

The Open Day on Sunday July 24th is so the community can learn first-hand about who they are, what they do and how they do it.

Melanie Brenton is an active General Land Rescue operator which means she is accredited to attend road accidents. She has been involved for eight years. Mel’s initial motivation was to meet people and become more involved in the community, but she has benefitted so much more from the experience, “I feel very proud of the people, our capability and resources in the team. We function as a smooth unit which is important. We trust each other and there is a great sense of professionalism and contribution.”

“At the open day there will be an opportunity to see how one of the rescue vehicles is set up for operations. We will do a live demonstration of a rescue from a car, and you can speak to the members and learn more about how to get involved,” Paul Cowles, the Deputy Region Coordinator, says “It’s a great way of giving back to the community in a different way.” There will also be a sausage sizzle.

Women and men over 18 are invited to become involved. Paul confirms, “For those that are interested, the training is free and accredited nationwide.” Melanie says.
“There are many options and paths you can take. The training and mentoring are constant. I feel like I have been nurtured for my whole eight-year journey. The experience of those supporting you is important – some are founding members. Next, I’d like to train in flood rescue, which is a personal interest for me.

“Working with other services is part of the role – firies, SES, ambulance and the police,” Mel says.
“When you rescue anything, even a cat and the tears of a family turn to smiles, it is such a good feeling. We are a small team, but we have a mighty impact!”

The open day is on Sunday July 24th at the VRA headquarters on Graham place in Casino. It starts at 11am and goes until 2pm. All are welcome.
