Fatal Shark Attack Claims Life on Mid North Coast

A young woman has died and a man remains in a critical condition after a shark attack at Crowdy Bay on the Mid North Coast early this morning.

Emergency services were called to the beach about 6.30am on Thursday, 27 November 2025, following reports that two people had been bitten while in the water.

Bystanders rushed to help the pair before paramedics arrived, but despite their efforts the woman, believed to be in her 20s, died at the scene. She is yet to be formally identified.

The injured man, also aged in his 20s, was airlifted to the John Hunter Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

The beach has been closed, and officers from the Manning/Great Lakes Police District are working with shark experts from the Department of Primary Industries to determine the species involved.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
