BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE

Get ready to be swept away by the rhythm of rebellion and the melody of hope with the upcoming biopic, Bob Marley: One Love.

This highly anticipated film, hitting theatres on February 14, 2024, promises to be more than just a chronicle of the legendary reggae musician’s life. It’s a journey into the heart of a man who used his music to fight for unity, love, and social justice.

The film takes us back to Marley’s early days in the rural Jamaican village of Nine Mile, where his musical roots were planted. We witness his rise to stardom as the frontman of the Wailers, their struggles against poverty and discrimination, and their eventual transformation into the iconic band known as Bob Marley & The Wailers.

Kingsley Ben-Adir takes on the monumental task of portraying Marley, capturing not only his musical genius but also his charisma, unwavering spirit, and unwavering commitment to his message.

Marley’s music wasn’t just entertainment; it was a weapon. His lyrics, infused with Rastafarian beliefs and Pan-Africanism, spoke of liberation, love, and the fight against oppression. Songs like “Get Up, Stand Up,” “Redemption Song,” and of course, the title track, “One Love,” became anthems for the disenfranchised around the world.

The film promises to immerse us in the electrifying atmosphere of Marley’s live performances, showcasing the infectious energy of his music and its power to unite people across cultures and backgrounds.

Bob Marley: One Love is not just a musical biopic; it’s a story of resilience, faith, and the enduring power of love. We see Marley’s struggles with illness, his unwavering commitment to his family, and his tireless efforts to promote peace and unity, culminating in the historic “One Love Peace Concert” in Jamaica.

The film delves into the complex political landscape of Jamaica in the 1970s, where Marley’s message of unity often clashed with the entrenched political establishment. It’s a story that remains relevant today, reminding us of the power of music to inspire change and the importance of fighting for what we believe in.

Bob Marley’s legacy extends far beyond his music. He remains a symbol of hope and resistance, a reminder that even the smallest voice can make a difference. Bob Marley: One Love is a testament to his enduring impact, a film that will leave you dancing to the rhythm of his music and yearning for a world united by love.

So, mark your calendars for February 14th and get ready to experience the magic of Bob Marley: One Love. Let the music wash over you, feel the spirit of rebellion ignite within you, and remember the power of one love to conquer all.

With its stellar cast, powerful soundtrack, and timely message, Bob Marley: One Love is a film that promises to be a cinematic and emotional experience. It’s a must-see for music lovers, history buffs, and anyone who believes in the power of music to change the world.

By Samantha Elley

Put your expectations away and open your mind to the ‘edge of your seat’ experience you will be in for when you go to see The Circus in Coffs Harbour.

“We are a seventh generation circus family, originally from Germany,” said tour manager and matriarch, Marie Weber.

“We bring acts that have never been seen under the big top in Australia before.

“These include FMX (freestyle) riders, the splitting globe of death, comedians, aerialists and even a human cannonball.”

Patriarch, Harry Weber, has been involved in the circus touring life for the past 40 years and the family are excited to be in Australia.

“We have been touring in New Zealand, South Africa, Korea and other international areas,” said Marie.

That’s no mean feat with a family of eight children who have all grown up with the circus.

“We have performers from all walks of life,” said Marie.

“There are about 40 crew and performers, including those travelling with families.”

Marie said they are all like one big happy family, especially when they have been working so closely together for so long.

“Most of us have been working together for more than 10 years,” she said.

The Circus has just wound up six shows at Lismore Showgrounds and is now heading to Coffs Harbour where they have a giveaway on their Facebook page ‘Weber Bros Entertainment’ for two VIP packages and 10 double passes to their shows.

They will be performing their action packed shows at Coffs Harbour Showground between June 6th – 16th.

Book your tickets at 0452003300 or online at iticket.com.au for two hours of great family entertainment. Prices range from $35 – $85 for adults and $25-$70 for children.

Horizon

There is a place between sea and sky – a sacred realm, where the sun rises and falls and the light is new.

From two of the world’s great First Nations comes a brand-new work: Horizon. Some call it a feeling, some call it the mother spirit. It’s the place where sea meets sky, the horizon we all look to, the compass that guides us home.

In Bangarra Dance Theatre’s first main stage cross-cultural collaboration, leading Māori choreographer Moss Te Ururangi Patterson joins beloved Bangarra alumna Deborah Brown. Together they guide the award-winning ensemble in stories that honour their mother countries and the spirit that calls them home.

Brown is a proud descendent of the Wakaid Clan and Meriam people in the Torres Strait, with heritage from far across the seas in Scotland. She carries strength and resilience from her ancestors. Patterson was born in Turangi near Lake Taupō, and describes the sense of home as something alive, that he carries like a beating heart.

To open the program, Saibailayg (Saibai Islander) Sani Townson expands his acclaimed work Kulka, debuted in Dance Clan in 2023, to make a thrilling opening piece paying homage to Sani’s grandfather and his Torres Strait heritage.

Come explore the cultural forces that bind us together, across oceans and eons. Experience the resilience of the First Peoples of the Oceania region, that extends across the continent now known as Australia, the Torres Strait Islands and Aotearoa, our southern neighbour.

Horizon is a double bill opening with Kulka by Bangarra alum Sani Townson, followed by the primary piece, The Light Inside, choreographed by Bangarra alum Deborah Brown and Māori choreographer and Arts Laureate Moss Te Ururangi Patterson.
