Casino Showground Bookings Now Available

We are excited to announce that the recently revitalised Casino Showground and Racecourse precinct will commence accepting bookings starting from Monday, June 3rd.

With a generous funding injection of $12.8 million from the Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund, alongside contributions from various sources including the NSW Showground Stimulus Program, Drought Communities Funding, Crown Lands, and Council, the total investment in this redevelopment has reached $14.4 million.

This newly enhanced facility boasts a range of features including a spacious undercover arena, an outdoor sand arena, turfed areas, covered stables, and a state-of-the-art racehorse stable complex capable of accommodating up to 80 horses. Additionally, new parking areas for cars, trucks, and floats have been added for the convenience of visitors.

Of notable appeal is the newly constructed racehorse exercise area, which includes round yards, a horse walker, and a 50-metre equine pool. These amenities are expected to draw considerable interest from equestrian enthusiasts and event organizers alike. Furthermore, enhancements such as powered event camping areas have expanded the facility’s versatility, allowing for hosting a diverse range of events including country music festivals, car shows, trade exhibitions, and markets.

Despite the official opening ceremony held on April 20th to commemorate the acknowledgment of government funding, certain essential construction tasks remain pending due to unforeseen circumstances. These include the high-voltage power upgrade, completion of the equine training area, and fencing installations crucial for ensuring the safety of all facility users.

Unfortunately, adverse weather conditions in the Northern Rivers region have exacerbated delays, saturating many areas of the facility and rendering them unsuitable for immediate use. However, efforts are underway to expedite the finalisation of these outstanding projects in alignment with the originally tendered project costs.

In tandem with these developments, the Council is set to deliberate on its Draft Revenue Policy for 2024-2025 at its upcoming meeting. This policy will outline the proposed fees for utilising the facility and will undergo a public exhibition period of 28 days following the meeting, during which community feedback and submissions will be welcomed.

We extend our gratitude to all existing stakeholders and potential users for their patience throughout this project’s completion, which has been hampered by unforeseen challenges. We eagerly anticipate opening all elements of this facility to serve the broader community.

For those interested in booking the venue, please visit the Council’s venue hire website.

Upcoming Improvements on McDonalds Bridge Road

Daily users of McDonalds Bridge Road will be pleased to hear that further improvement work is scheduled to commence in August, weather permitting.

An investment of over $2 million will fund the repair of approximately four kilometres of the road. This project will include widening the shoulders from the base of the hill east of Edenville Road to Stratheden Road. Upon completion, the entire width of the road will be resealed.

The scope of the project also includes widening and installing scour rock protection on culverts, setting up guideposts, and cleaning table drains.

Richmond Valley Council‘s General Manager, Vaughan Macdonald, emphasised the Council’s commitment to restoring the local transportation network to meet community expectations.

Mr. Macdonald highlighted that the Council is working collaboratively with the NSW and Australian governments to not only restore but also enhance the road network’s resilience, supported by funding from all three levels of government.

“The safety and efficiency of people and freight movements on our roads are paramount,” said Mr. Macdonald. “The floods of 2022 resulted in a road repair bill exceeding $100 million. Unfortunately, our road network faced additional strain over the past eight months, with record rainfall causing extensive pothole damage.

“While significant progress has been made in restoring our local roads and ensuring their safety and efficiency, Council relies heavily on government funding to repair and upgrade our damaged roads to a more resilient standard.

“Despite these challenges, our capital program acknowledges the crucial role of local roads and infrastructure in building resilient, connected communities and supporting economic growth in the Richmond Valley.”

Casino Truck Show to Auction Custom-Made Bar for Charity

The North Coast Petroleum Casino Truck Show organising committee is thrilled to announce the auction of a custom-made bar to raise funds for charity.

Generously donated by Queensland-based Moore Trailers, the 2.4m x 2.4m bar is crafted from steel with mirror stainless ends, designed to resemble the rear end of a trailer. Valued at $6,500, this versatile bar is perfect for entertaining and recreational use.

Enhancing the auction, Engel Australia has contributed a 95-litre upright fridge valued at $1,699, ensuring this auction is a highlight of the event.

The auction will take place on Saturday, 3 August, at the Mafeking Lamp roundabout at 2:45 pm, just before the trophy presentation. The Casino Truck Show extends gratitude to Moore Trailers’ Scott Gollan and Engel Australia’s Jason Dwyer for their support.

For 2024, men’s health charity Movember has been chosen as the Casino Truck Show charity partner. Movember, a leading men’s health organisation, focuses on mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer. Since 2003, Movember has funded over 12,500 projects, engaging more than five million participants worldwide.

In 2023, the Casino Truck Show donated $10,000 to local charities, including the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, Casino Soup Kitchen, and Jumbunna Community Preschool.

Mark your calendars for the 2024 North Coast Petroleum Casino Truck Show, set to take place in the Casino CBD on Saturday, 3 August. This must-attend event for truck enthusiasts will showcase innovation, performance, and community spirit.

The festivities kick off with the street parade at 10 am, followed by the trophy presentation at 3 pm. Entertainment will feature performances by Mossy Rocks and the Tony Q Band on two stages, along with kid-friendly activities like amusement rides and face painting. Exhibitors will display industry-related products and services.

The event will culminate with a thrilling bull ride by J&J Rodeo under the new arena at the Casino Showground.

Online registrations open on Monday, 1 July, with the entry fee remaining at $30 per participant. For more information, visit the Casino Truck Show website.
