Richmond Valley – High Tide and Flooding Alert for Low-Lying Areas

Richmond Valley – High Tide and Flooding Alert for Low-Lying Areas
Residents are urged to prepare for hazardous weather conditions in the coming days, with strong winds expected to bring down trees, powerlines, and cause structural damage.
For those living in beachfront areas, the Northern Rivers Emergency Operations Centre advises that upcoming high tides could rise approximately 0.5 metres above usual levels. Depending on your location, these elevated tides may result in water entering homes.
Destructive wind gusts of up to 155 km/h may develop late today or early Friday, particularly over exposed or coastal areas of the Northern Rivers.
Flood Risks in Evans Head
Residents in low-lying areas of Evans Head should remain alert as heavy rainfall from Tropical Cyclone Alfred increases the risk of flooding. Areas of particular concern include:
- Intersection of Ocean Drive and Bundjalung Road, and Ocean Drive near the Co-op – potential inundation isolating South Evans Head.
- Bundjalung Road, South Evans Head – likely to be flooded.
- Paddon Park and Coast Guard Park – at risk of inundation.
- McDonald Place, near Evans River, including the cenotaph and adjacent car park – potential flooding.
- Reflections Holiday Park and surrounding areas along the drainage channel – expected to be affected.
Rising water levels pose a serious threat to homes, roads, and personal safety. Please stay informed and follow official emergency updates.
Precautionary Measures
Residents are urged to take the following steps:
✔ Secure important documents and belongings to prevent loss or damage.
✔ Avoid walking or driving through flooded areas – water can be deeper or more dangerous than it appears.
✔ Be prepared to evacuate early if required – do not wait for emergency services.
