Warwick livestock markets ease

The latest Warwick livestock markets report shows cattle prices easing while sheep and lamb rates strengthened ahead of the Easter processing break.

Agents yarded 2,298 head of cattle, returning an average of $1,226.30 per head, with most categories trending slightly softer due to reduced processor demand.

Feeder steers averaged 405.5c/kg, topping at 478.2c/kg, while feeder heifers averaged 320.6c/kg. Trade steers peaked at 464.2c/kg, and cows topped at 353.2c/kg.

Sheep and lamb numbers eased to 2,072 head, but stronger competition lifted lamb prices. Lambs topped at $336, averaging $219.14, up $36 per head week-on-week.

Ewes reached $278, while hoggets topped at $236 and ram lambs reached $255.

Pig and poultry markets remained subdued despite slightly higher yardings, with porkers selling to $270 and pullets reaching $55.

Agents expect conditions to shift again once normal processing schedules resume after Easter.
