Casino Library Opens Free Community Meeting Spaces

Casino Library community meeting rooms

Community members in the Richmond Valley now have even more opportunities to connect, study and access vital services. This is thanks to the opening of three new multipurpose meeting rooms at the Casino Library.

The project, officially opened by Clarence MP Richie Williamson and Richmond Valley Council Mayor Robert Mustow, was made possible through a $173,803 grant. This grant came from the NSW Government’s Public Library Infrastructure Grants program, administered by the State Library of NSW.

The new rooms are designed to provide small, accessible, and private spaces suitable for a variety of uses. These include telehealth appointments, study sessions, interviews, and meetings between community members and service organisations. Each room can accommodate between four and six people. They also include access to free Wi-Fi and loan laptops.

Richie Williamson said the project reflects the evolving role of libraries as essential community hubs.

“Libraries have always been at the heart of our local communities — places to learn, connect, and grow,” Mr Williamson said. “These new meeting rooms at the Casino Library are a fantastic example. They show how modern libraries are adapting to meet local needs. I’m proud to see NSW Government funding supporting initiatives that make a real difference for regional communities.”

Mayor Robert Mustow praised the efforts of library staff and their ongoing dedication to connecting residents with resources and services.
“Our library staff do an exceptional job, and these new rooms will further enhance the outstanding service they provide,” Cr Mustow said.
Richmond Valley Council’s Manager of the Regional Library, Ngarie Macqueen, said the facilities are part of a broader commitment. This commitment is to ensure libraries remain inclusive and dynamic community spaces.

“It’s essential that our libraries continue to offer not only access to books and information but also flexible, shared spaces. Everyone should feel welcome,” Mrs Macqueen said.

Bookings for meeting rooms across the Casino and Evans Head libraries have surged from 728 in 2023 to 991 in 2024, highlighting strong community demand. The new additions will help accommodate this growing need. They offer free use for community members and affordable options for commercial hire.

Rooms can be reserved through Richmond Valley Council’s SpacetoCo booking portal at www.spacetoco.com/org/richmond-valley-council.
