New Pump Track Construction Begins in Ballina
Major boost for Ballina’s recreation scene as council begins work on national-standard pump track
Ballina Shire Council has officially kicked off construction on a new pump track in Ballina, a project that promises to become a major attraction for local families and riding enthusiasts alike. Located in the southern section of Kingsford Smith Reserve, this purpose-built facility will feature national event-standard design and a dedicated junior track.
Backed by $733,345 in funding from the NSW Government alongside Council contributions, the project is poised to transform the area into a vibrant recreational hub. Minister for Regional NSW Tara Moriarty said, “The new pump track will provide a fun, active space for people of all ages to enjoy, where riders can test out their new skills and get outside in nature.”
Ballina Shire Mayor Sharon Cadwallader echoed the enthusiasm, highlighting the project’s long-term value. “The new pump track will be an incredible addition, offering a safe and vibrant space for young people and families to come together, stay active, and have fun,” she said.
The track will meet national qualifier standards, making Ballina eligible to host international-level events, including races in the Pump Track World Championship Series. Alongside the competition track, the precinct will feature a junior circuit, advanced line, and community amenities such as shelters, seating, drinking fountains, a workstation, and bike stands. The site will also include landscaping, stormwater management systems, and shade trees to ensure comfort and sustainability.
This development is a key deliverable of the Kingsford Smith Reserve Master Plan, shaped through community consultation and driven by Council’s goal to increase youth engagement and access to outdoor recreation.
The new pump track in Ballina is expected to open in October 2025, weather permitting.
