Angus Steers Reach $2,200 at Beaudesert Store Sale
Strong buyer competition drove prices higher across all categories at Saturday’s Beaudesert Store Sale, with quality restocker and feeder cattle attracting spirited bidding and replacement females exceeding vendor expectations.
Agents Bartholomew & Co reported a dearer market across the board, with confidence evident from both restockers and feeders keen to secure quality lines. Strong demand for PTIC cows and heavy breeding females also underpinned the sale.
Leading the market was an outstanding run of Angus milk and two-tooth steers from Jim and Robyn Picton of Dugandan, with the top pen selling for $2,200 a head. Santa cross steers, 20 months, from Graeme and Karen Richards of Rathdowney reached $2,050, while Yawarra Pty Ltd of Nindooinbah sold 15-month-old Santa steers for $2,000. Tony and Megan Gleeson of Purga received $1,970 for their Santa steers.
Droughtmaster cross steers from Keith and Sandra Trace of Chambers Flat sold to $1,910, while Steven Hermann of Tarampa achieved $1,770 for his 15-month-old Droughtmaster cross steers.
Competition remained solid for younger cattle. Graeme and Karen Richards sold Santa cross weaner steers for $1,500, matched by Trevor and Sue Whitehall of Mt Berryman. Charolais cross weaner steers sold to $1,450, while lightweight weaner steers reached $1,150.
Replacement heifers were in particularly strong demand. Richard and Anne Worley of Coulson topped the heifer section with Droughtmaster cross heifers at $1,500. Charbray heifers sold for $1,420, Droughtmaster heifers reached $1,400, and quality Santa weaner heifers topped at $1,210.
Heavy breeding cows also attracted excellent competition, with Lotus Property Pty Ltd of Kingsholme selling Droughtmaster cows for $2,310. Warrick and Johanne Stewart of Pimpama achieved $2,210, while PTIC Santa cows from Oppermann Pastoral at Kerry sold for $1,800.
The strong market reflected continued confidence among producers looking to secure quality breeding and feeder stock despite seasonal challenges. Bartholomew & Co will conduct the next Beaudesert Store Sale on Saturday, August 1, commencing at 9.30am.
