Raptor Squad lock down Drummoyne streets to target OCNs – Operation Talon
Raptor Squad officers locked down a number of streets during two Firearm Prohibition Order compliance checks in Sydney’s Inner West yesterday under Operation Talon.
Operation Talon is an ongoing high-visibility policing operation designed to disrupt and suppress Organised Crime Networks (OCNs) and Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs (OMCGs).
Between 6pm and 8.30pm on Thursday 4 April 2024, officers attached to State Crime Command’s Raptor Squad Operation Talon executed two Firearm Prohibition order compliance checks at an address on St Georges Crescent in Drummoyne.
Assisted by Burwood Police Area Command, State Intelligence Command, Traffic & Highway Patrol, Aviation Command, Marine Area Command, and the Dog Squad, officers executed the compliance checks and locked down several surrounding streets to search a number of vehicles and talk to neighbouring residents.
In total, officers spoke to over 100 residents, seized $30,000 in cash, and searched seven people and five vehicles.
Raptor Squad Commander, Detective Superintendent Andrew Koutsoufis, said suppression of criminal syndicates and their associates is one of the squad’s main objectives.
“Our job isn’t just reacting to crime after it happens but stopping it from happening before it has a chance to,” Det Supt Koutsoufis said.
“We do that through proactive operations like this; focusing on firearm compliance, vehicle searches, and talking directly to residents – who shouldn’t have to feel threated just by where they live.
“A lockdown like this takes a double-barrelled approach; to both rattle the OCN associates, and to reassure the community we are listening, and we are there for them.”
Operation Talon continues.
