The North Coast Show and Shine and Swap Meet has once again proven to be a resounding success, bringing the community together for a worthy cause. Held at Ballina Racecourse, this year’s event drew an impressive crowd of approximately 7,500 attendees and featured over 600 vehicles, ranging from vintage classics to modern cars and motorcycles.
With all proceeds benefiting the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service, the event proudly raised more than $35,000 to support its life-saving work across the region.
Beyond the stunning display of vehicles, the event was a true celebration of community spirit, offering a vibrant atmosphere filled with live music from JB Blues Breakers, a bustling swap meet, and a variety of family-friendly entertainment. Children delighted in face painting, rides, and temporary tattoos, while one of the standout features of the day was the ‘Judge for a Day’ program. This unique initiative allowed 25 children from diverse backgrounds to select their favourite vehicle—a role they embraced with great enthusiasm, much to the delight of participants and spectators alike.
Michelle Bailey, event co-organiser and President of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Volunteer Committee, expressed her excitement, stating:
“The kids absolutely loved being part of the judging panel, and the vehicle owners were thrilled with their involvement. It’s always a highlight of the event, and we’re proud to create a space where every child feels valued and engaged.”
Adding to the event’s prestige, Ballina Council Mayor Sharon Cadwallader was on hand to present the official awards. The highly coveted Best Car in Show title was awarded to Lindsay Connor for his stunning 1964 XM Coupe Ford.
Martin Bailey, event co-organiser and Lennox Head Machinery Car Club member, reflected on the event’s impact:
“The North Coast Show and Shine is always a fantastic day for car enthusiasts and the whole community. Seeing so many incredible vehicles on display, families enjoying themselves, and everyone coming together to support such a worthy cause was truly special. We’re incredibly proud of the funds raised for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service and grateful to all who contributed.”
With overwhelming support from the community, sponsors, and volunteers, the North Coast Show and Shine continues to flourish as one of Ballina’s premier fundraising and social events, making a significant difference in the lives of those who rely on the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service.
