AUDI S8 LIMOUSINE UPDATED

By EWAN KENNEDY

Audi S8 has sharpened exterior design.

Audi S8, the flagship of its sedan range, has sharpened exterior design and innovative lighting technology.

The Audi S8 is powered by a 4.0-litre TFSI V8 engine producing power of 420kW, and torque of 800Nm from 2,050 to 4,500 rpm. It can do zero to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds.

It has mild hybrid technology to further enhance the engine’s performance alongside standard cylinder on demand technology.

The 48-volt mild-hybrid electrical system can recover up to 8 kW of power while coasting or under light throttle.

MY22 Audi S8, available to order in Audi dealerships.

The S8 has a fast-shifting eight-speed tiptronic transmission, directing power to the road via a permanent all-wheel drive. Under normal driving conditions, torque is distributed 40:60, front to rear.

Up to 85 percent of engine torque can be directed to the rear wheels for especially sporty handling. The quattro sport differential can provide further adjustment, directing almost all of the rear axle’s torque to either wheel during particularly dynamic driving.

Predictive active suspension works in combination with multiple sensors throughout the car, including the video camera, to influence and actively control the S8’s body, seamlessly adapting to the road conditions.

It can load or unload each wheel with additional power individually via an electric motor and thereby actively regulate the position of the chassis in any driving situation.

When Dynamic mode is on in the Audi drive select system, the S8 firmly turns into corners, the roll angles are small, and the body hardly dips when braking.

In Comfort+ mode, by contrast, it smoothly breezes over unevenness. Upon entering a curve, it elevates the side of the body on the outside of the curve and lowers the other side, thereby tilting it into the curve up to three degrees.

A range of standard features including 21-inch Audi Sport, 10-Y-spoke wheels, accentuated with red brake calipers, black exterior styling, metallic paint and privacy glass for the rear windows all as standard.

A selection of nine exterior colours are available on the new S8, as well as three interior trim colour schemes.

The all-new S8 has seamless integration of Audi smartphone interface via wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto.

The Bang & Olufsen 3D premium sound system (23 speakers, 1,920W) is described by Audi as “a symphonic feast for audiophiles”.

Digital TV functionality is standard. Screens optionally available in the rear compartment have two 10.1-inch displays with full HD resolution attached to the backs of the front seats. They display content from passengers’ devices and can receive numerous audio and video streams via casting, including from well-known streaming platforms or TV media libraries.

Audi S8’s predictive active suspension lifts by 50 mm when a door handle is opened – making entry and exit easier.

The interior is upholstered in Valcona leather, complete with an arrangement of carbon vector and dark brushed aluminium inlays.

The leather wrapped multi-function steering wheel offers heating for cooler climates. There are heating, ventilation and massage functions in the front seats.

The colour interior lighting setting creates a peaceful ambience with a selection of options available, dependent on the mood.

The Audi S8 has electric outer rear seats with memory and heating functionality, as well as a panoramic sunroof and electric sunblinds – all operable from the rear remote control.

Safety features included as standard include park assist, 360-degree cameras for visibility when maneuvering, adaptive cruise assist with Stop&Go and traffic jam assist, exit warning and rear cross traffic assist. Lane change warning detections offering a range of functions such as side assist, turn assist, collision avoidance assist and efficiency assist are also included as standard for the Audi S8.

Audi pre-sense can work in collaboration with predictive active suspension to raise the side of the vehicle in a pending side collision to mitigate the impact. A front-centre airbag assists in the event of a side impact, or if the vehicle rolls over during a collision.

Like all new Audi vehicles delivered to Australian customers from January 1 2022, the new S8 also comes with a five-year warranty and five-year Audi Roadside Assist. Audi also provides a 12-year manufacturer warranty for bodywork against corrosion perforation for new vehicle.

Toyota GR Super Sport: 670kW Hybrid Beast to Redefine the Supercar Game

By Jeff Gibbs

The Toyota GR Super Sport is coming, and it’s bringing 670kW of hybrid fury to the streets. As the spiritual successor to the Lexus LFA, this beast is set to crush expectations with a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 hybrid, track-inspired engineering, and stunning looks that scream performance. Forget limited editions—this time, the GR Super Sport is here to stay as a catalogue model.

Toyota’s Gazoo Racing (GR) division is dialling up the excitement, combining lessons from the racetrack with cutting-edge tech for the ultimate driving experience. Expect spine-tingling acceleration, razor-sharp handling, and a hybrid howl that’ll leave your heart racing.

Performance and Powertrain: Built for Speed

The GR Super Sport swaps the LFA’s legendary V10 for a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 paired with a multi-stage hybrid system, producing a jaw-dropping 670kW (900hp) of combined power. Here’s what makes it special:

  • Engine Power: 537kW (720hp) from the V8 alone
  • Hybrid Boost: Adds serious torque and responsiveness for instant power delivery
  • Drive Layout: Front-engine, rear transaxle, rear-wheel drive for optimal weight distribution and handling balance
  • Chassis: Alloy frame with carbon-fibre body panels, blending strength and lightweight construction for agility and speed

With this powertrain setup, expect 0–100 km/h in under 3 seconds and a top speed that punches beyond 330 km/h.

Dimensions: Aggressive Stance, Low Profile

The GR Super Sport keeps things low and wide for maximum stability and aerodynamics. According to BestCarWeb, its dimensions are:

  • Length: 4600mm
  • Width: 1950mm
  • Height: 1200mm

The sleek bodywork and aggressive lines not only boost aerodynamics but give the car a menacing presence on the road. Expect sharp creases, a wide rear end, and a road-hugging stance that will turn heads wherever it goes.

Tech and Design: Race-Ready Meets Luxury

Inside, the GR Super Sport blends race-inspired minimalism with luxury finishes. Expect lightweight materials like Alcantara, carbon fibre, and cutting-edge tech, from a configurable digital cockpit to advanced driving aids for track or street use.

Advanced suspension systems and performance brakes will keep this beast under control, while active aerodynamics ensure maximum grip at speed.

Track Roots, Road Focus

Testing at Spa-Francorchamps and Fuji Speedway has shaped the GR Super Sport into a track weapon that’s just as comfortable tearing up twisty mountain roads. Toyota’s GR GT3 race car has clearly influenced its design and performance ethos, blending race car pedigree with everyday usability.

Availability and Price

Set to hit the market in late 2025, the GR Super Sport is expected to cost around $A315,000—a bargain for a car offering supercar performance with hybrid efficiency. Unlike the LFA’s limited run of just 500 units, this new model will have ongoing production, giving more enthusiasts a shot at ownership.

Final Word: The LFA Legacy Reborn

The Toyota GR Super Sport isn’t just a car; it’s a statement. It combines track-bred performance, futuristic tech, and Toyota’s unmatched reliability. For those lucky enough to get behind the wheel, it promises to be a once-in-a-lifetime driving experience.

Whether you’re a fan of the original LFA or just love the idea of a 670kW street-legal race car, the GR Super Sport is the one to watch. Buckle up—this hybrid beast is ready to change the game.

Toyota Celica Rumour for 2026

Toyota Celica Revival Rumoured for 2026: A Modern Twist on a Sports Car Icon

By Jeff Gibbs

The Toyota Celica, once synonymous with affordable performance, may be returning in 2026, according to recent industry reports. The Celica, which first debuted in 1970, earned a loyal fanbase over seven generations before production ended in 2006. Now, Toyota appears ready to resurrect the legendary nameplate with a modern, technology-forward interpretation of the sports coupe.

A Hybrid Powertrain for the Future

Leaked information suggests that the new Celica will feature a turbocharged 2.0-litre engine paired with an electric motor, creating a high-performance hybrid. This setup could deliver the perfect blend of power and efficiency, with an expected output north of 220kW (300hp). Such a move aligns with Toyota’s carbon-neutral strategy, while maintaining the sporty DNA that made the Celica famous.

To keep up with current performance car trends, the Celica could offer all-wheel drive (AWD), taking advantage of electric torque distribution for enhanced grip and cornering performance. Gazoo Racing (GR), Toyota’s performance arm responsible for the GR Yaris and GR Corolla, is rumoured to be leading the project, ensuring the car will have track-ready credentials.

A Nod to Celica’s Racing Legacy

The original Celica established itself as a dominant force in rally racing, winning multiple World Rally Championship (WRC) titles in the 1990s. Its combination of lightweight design, precise handling, and approachable performance made it a favorite among enthusiasts.

Design-wise, the 2026 Celica is expected to take cues from Toyota’s GR GT3 Concept, featuring a low-profile coupe shape, aggressive bodywork, and advanced aerodynamics. Inside, expect a driver-centric cabin with digital instrumentation, performance seats, and Toyota’s latest infotainment and safety technologies.

What’s Next?

While Toyota has not officially confirmed the Celica’s return, industry watchers believe the announcement could come in early 2025, with a potential unveiling at Tokyo Auto Salon or Geneva Motor Show.

If true, the 2026 Toyota Celica promises to be a worthy successor, blending nostalgia with modern performance tech for a new generation of enthusiasts.

Toyota Prado 250 Series Gets Arctic Trucks’ Extreme Off-Road Makeover

By Jeff Gibbs

The legendary off-road specialists at Arctic Trucks have taken the new-generation Toyota LandCruiser Prado to the next level, equipping it with serious upgrades for extreme terrain.

The 2025 Toyota LandCruiser Prado has received its first major modification package courtesy of Arctic Trucks, the renowned custom engineering firm specialising in rugged, go-anywhere vehicles. Known for their expertise in creating ultra-capable off-road machines, Arctic Trucks has developed the AT37 package—a combination of performance enhancements and aggressive styling tweaks.

Built for the Toughest Terrain

Headquartered in the United Kingdom, Arctic Trucks has designed the AT37 with input from its UK and Iceland development centres, collaborating closely with Toyota South Africa. This comprehensive upgrade enhances both the Prado’s aesthetics and off-road prowess, pushing its already formidable capabilities even further.

The transformation starts with a reinforced frame and bodywork, engineered to withstand the most demanding conditions. A relocated rear axle extends the wheelbase for improved stability, while a widened track enhances handling on rough terrain.

To make the most of the increased dimensions, Arctic Trucks has integrated a bespoke suspension system. Developed in partnership with Dakar Rally specialists R53 Suspension, the setup includes two-way adjustable front coil-overs with extended travel, upgraded rear springs, and dampers—delivering an extra 40mm of lift for superior ground clearance.

Striking Looks, Serious Performance

The AT37 package doesn’t just enhance performance—it gives the Prado an unmistakable presence. The SUV rides on a set of satin black ‘Heritage’ 17 x 10-inch forged alloy wheels, wrapped in massive 37-inch BF Goodrich tyres. Depending on the market, buyers can opt for All-Terrain T/A K03 or Mud-Terrain T/A KM3 rubber for ultimate traction.

Arctic Trucks has carefully balanced these modifications with the Prado’s factory drivetrain, ensuring the SUV maintains a low centre of gravity while achieving superior ground clearance and articulation.

A Legacy of Extreme Capability

Arctic Trucks is no stranger to crafting high-performance Toyota off-roaders. The company gained global recognition in 2007 when it built the legendary Toyota HiLux for Top Gear’s Magnetic North Pole Expedition—a feat that cemented its reputation for extreme engineering

While pricing for the AT37 package remains unconfirmed, it has already launched in the UK and other global markets—though there are no plans for an Australian release. The 2025 LandCruiser Prado itself marks a major milestone, arriving as the first all-new model in 15 years, with a staggering 17,000 pre-orders in Australia ahead of its November 2024 delivery.

With its extreme off-road upgrades, rugged new stance, and battle-tested components, the Arctic Trucks AT37 package transforms the Prado into a serious contender for the most challenging landscapes on the planet.

2026 Toyota HiLux: The ‘New’ Model That’s Not Quite All-New

2026 Toyota HiLux: The ‘New’ Model That’s Not Quite All-New

By Jeff Gibbs

Toyota remains tight-lipped about the next-generation HiLux, but mounting evidence suggests the 2026 model will be a heavily updated version of the current ute rather than a ground-up redesign.

While speculation has swirled about an all-new HiLux, recent spy photos confirm what many suspected—Toyota is taking an evolutionary approach rather than a revolutionary one. Expect a refreshed front and rear design, possible interior tweaks, and carry-over underpinnings that maintain the ute’s proven off-road capability.

What Toyota Has (and Hasn’t) Said

Toyota’s reputation for secrecy means official details remain scarce. However, Toyota Australia’s sales and marketing boss, Sean Hanley, hinted that while the next-generation HiLux is on the way, it won’t stray from the formula that has made it a best-seller.

“I think the new HiLux will need to meet criteria of capability—particularly off-road—reliability, and affordability. And whatever we do with HiLux, that will be our first goal,” Hanley stated at a media event in early January.

When pressed on the timing of the new model, he added:

“I always laugh when journalists ask me, ‘When’s the new one coming?’ You know the day we launch a car, we start planning a new one.”

His remarks came just days before spy photos surfaced, showing what appears to be a facelifted version of today’s HiLux, rather than a completely new platform.

Why Toyota is Sticking to the Current Formula

By retaining its existing underpinnings, Toyota ensures the 2026 HiLux will deliver similar off-road performance to today’s model. A heavy facelift is also far more cost-effective than developing an all-new vehicle—keeping development costs down and potentially maintaining competitive pricing for buyers.

This strategy aligns with earlier reports from South America, which first suggested the 2026 HiLux would be an evolutionary upgrade rather than a ground-up overhaul. The move also reflects Toyota’s cautious, reliability-first approach—prioritising durability over rapid design changes.

What to Expect

While full details remain under wraps, the 2026 Toyota HiLux will likely feature:

  • Refreshed front and rear styling for a modernised look
  • Updated interior with potential tech enhancements
  • Carry-over chassis and powertrains, ensuring familiar off-road capability
  • Potential price stability, given the cost-effective update strategy

With HiLux facing growing competition from next-gen utes like the Ford Ranger and Mitsubishi Triton, Toyota is clearly playing the long game—betting on reliability, affordability, and incremental improvements to keep the HiLux at the top of the sales charts.

While it may not be the all-new model some had hoped for, the 2026 HiLux looks set to refine, rather than redefine, Toyota’s legendary workhorse.

The interior prioritises sustainability, using recycled and plant-derived materials for 70% of surfaces. It offers conveniences like wireless charging, USB-C and HDMI ports, and household power outlets. A ‘media bar’ on the exterior shares information with other road users.

Performance and Safety

Powered by dual 180kW motors for all-wheel drive, the car features air suspension linked to a 3D Motion Management System, integrating motor, brake, and suspension controls for optimal comfort and handling.

Safety tech includes 800 TOPS of computing power managing 18 cameras, nine radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and lidar for adaptive cruise control and lane-centring assist.
