Byron Bay Film Festival to Screen at Lennox Head

Byron Bay Film Festival to Screen at Lennox Head
The Byron Bay Film Festival returns to the Lennox Head Cultural Centre on Sunday 23 October to pay tribute to local surf culture with two iconic surfing documentaries.
“It’s the second year we’ve included Lennox Head in the program thanks to the film screening capabilities at the Lennox Head Cultural Centre, and we couldn’t be more excited about returning
to Lennox with two iconic surf films,” said Byron Bay Film Festival Director, J’aimee Skippon-Volke.
J’aimee Skippon-Volke continued, “We are also screening a film by fifteen-year-old Lennox Head local, Marlon Denning, and a Q&A with Andrew Englisch, a renowned adventure filmmaker who
has won multiple awards for Gone with the Wing that will screen with the feature film, The Endless Summer.”
The Endless Summer is arguably the most influential surf film of all time. A 1966 documentary by Bruce Brown that captures American surfers Mike Hynson and Robert August as they travel the
world in search of the perfect wave and an endless summer.
The Endless Summer will screen with Gone with the Wing, a film by Andrew Englisch from 3.30pm to 5.30pm on Sunday 23 October 2022.
Waterman is a film about surfing legend, Olympic superstar, Hawaiian icon and global hero. A fivetime Olympic medallist and native Hawaiian, Duke Paoa Kahanamoku shattered records and
brought surfing to the world while overcoming a lifetime of personal challenges, narrated by Jason Momoa.
Waterman screens with The Rock Pool Waltz a film by Marlon Denning from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.
The Byron Bay Film festival opens at the Palace Cinemas on Friday 21 October followed by nine days of screenings across Byron Bay, Murwillumbah and Lennox Head.
This year marks the festivals 16th edition, bringing quality films from locally made stories to worldclass cinema with the aim of using the power of film to shine light on a community recovering from
the events of the past three years.
The festival promises to deliver sparkling red-carpet events, fascinating Q&As with the talent behind the films, the exploration of cutting-edge creative technologies and free community events,
together offering something for everyone.
